Guided by the Waves | Health and Wellbeing Series
The Health & Wellbeing Series is a collection of abstract paintings that explores the relationship between emotional balance, mental clarity and self-connection. The series also reflects my personal exploration of creativity as a grounding practice during periods of change and growth. The work is rooted in the belief that visual art can act as a form of quiet therapy, offering moments of reflection, calm and emotional release within everyday environments.
'Guided by the Waves' centres on a figure in a graceful, extended yoga pose (Natarajasana or Lord of the Dance pose), achieving a perfect balance between earth and sky. Positioned directly beneath a vibrant, solid yellow sun, the figure appears to be drawing energy from the celestial source above while remaining firmly grounded in a shimmering, golden landscape.
There is a profound sense of harmony and empowerment in this piece. The contrast between the figure’s smooth, precise silhouette and the wild, tactile energy of the surrounding environment suggests a person who has found their center amidst the beautiful chaos of the natural world. It feels both ancient and modern—a timeless tribute to the human spirit's ability to find stillness in motion.
Through layered textures created using spackling, intuitive mark-making with acrylic paint, and expressive yet grounding colour palettes, each piece responds to a different aspect of wellbeing. Themes such as resilience, inner strength, vulnerability, balance and personal growth emerge through a fluid and instinctive creative process, where emotion and movement guide both composition and surface detail.
The series has been developed with wellbeing-focused spaces in mind — including fitness and wellness environments, therapy settings, creative workspaces and homes that prioritise mindfulness and self-care. Each painting is intended to create a visual moment of pause within busy surroundings, encouraging stillness and supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing.
